Arnie Kuenn is about as close the personification of content marketing as you can get. It’s not just his three decades’ worth of entrepreneurial and digital marketing expertise, his status as award-winning author and world-renowned speaker, or even his claim on the title of Arizona’s 2017 Content Marketing Person of the Year. Q: What excites you most about presenting at CMC18?
A: I rarely say this, but I am looking forward to attending a lot of sessions to see as many of these great speakers as I can. I attend 15-20 events per year, and I skip a lot of the sessions because I can only take in so much, and honestly, I feel I’ve heard it all before. But not at CMC. It’s a great line up and I am going to catch as much of it as I can.
Q: Why is NOW the time to master content marketing?
A: I’d argue that the time was 5 years ago. If you haven’t done it by now, now IS the time. Every day that goes by, if you are not implementing a content marketing strategy, you are falling further and further behind your competition. And one thing about content marketing, it’s very hard to come from behind. Quit making excuses. Instead, make content a priority—just like you did when you decided to get a new accounting system, new website, new employees, and so on.
Q: What does it take to connect with customers today—and how can great content do that?
A: In my opinion, it means answering your customers’ (or prospects’) questions and concerns, with useful content, at the right time and place. Ideally it is on platforms that you own but can also be on third-party platforms like Facebook or LinkedIn. You do this by truly understanding what questions or concerns your audience has, and then having the plan in place to produce and publish those answers.
Q: If there was just one thing you could convince all content marketers to do, what would that be?
A: No doubt in my mind, the one difference between success and failure is not implementing according to your strategy. We have worked with hundreds of clients over the years and have taught 10’s of thousands of people in our workshops, and the data we see tells us those that those who implement on a consistent basis are the winners. Those that don’t have the excuses.
