We are back highlighting another CMC attendee, this time it’s Amber of The Weather Company! We are thrilled to have you with us Amber, and look forward to meeting you in just 13 days!
Tell us about you, where you work, and your content marketing history!
I work as content marketing manager for The Weather Company, an IBM Business.
My background stems primarily from 10+ years as an editorial expert with companies ranging from magazines to newspapers, engineering firms to elevator news.
My one constant is my standard of quality and consistency with regards to grammar. Customers might not always be able to tell when everything is perfect, but they will certainly know when things aren’t.
What prompted you to register for CMC?
I enjoy the idea of inserting humor and professional cleverness into marketing materials, and I want to bolster my own skills in this area.
I mean, we are all professionals, but who says we can’t have some fun in and with our jobs?
How did you convince your boss?
Totally didn’t have to! I sent her the link, and she agreed immediately.
We are enthusiastic about professional development, and I think we are both excited about what I will learn and bring home to the team.
What speaker and session(s) are you most looking forward to?
Anything to do with best tips.
This is my first conference in the field, and I’m looking forward to learning how to optimize my writing for marketing and sales.
What is your major 2017 marketing goal(s)?
To boost our customer base as we expand around the world.
What is one thing you’d like to know about Boston before heading here in April (food, drink, must-sees)
I grew up an hour north in New Hampshire, so I know quite a bit! I’m sure people will want to know more about the marathon.
What has been your favorite conference to date and why?
This is my first conference where I am an actual participant rather than covering the event for a publication. I’m so excited!
What is the best conference swag you received?
My kids are big fans of the backpacks, and I once got a Viking helmet…
Other than that, I’m sorry to say that most swag is forgettable — but I won’t give up hope!
If you could give one piece of advice to a speaker, a sponsor, or a conference host, what would they be?
Please for the love of my sanity, get an editor to correct your presentations for grammatical errors before the show.
Nothing irks me more than seeing a keynote with inconsistencies, misspellings, and errors.
What’s your top conference networking tip?
Smile. It can be so intimidating to talk to strangers — a nice smile makes it easier.
Anything else?
I’m really looking forward to participating in this event!
I wish I’d booked a room a little sooner, but I suppose commuting will give me time to reflect and allow the lessons to sink in.
And, there’s always “Harry Potter” audio books!
